The promising team of up and coming director Gia Coppola and multi-instrumentalist dream boy Devonté Hynes (or Blood Orange) have followed up James Franco-produced Palo Alto (2013) with a Urban Outfitters music video to Hynes’s “You’re Not Good Enough.” The second single from Cupid Deluxe (2013) also made an appearance in the film's end credits. Its music video falls in line with Gia Coppola's directorial style.
With very little glitz but lots of glam, the dancers' youth is front and centre, and the entire clip looks like something from the 80s. I have no idea what Dev is wearing on his feet, but Friends vocalist Samantha Urbani's outfit is perfect. It's nice to see a good dance video that isn't over-sexualized like much of what we're fed nowadays. The track itself is summer approved, with a plucked bass line, shuffling snare drum, and soaring synth melodies.
Coppola and Hynes are signing vinyls this Thursday afternoon at Urban Outfitters in Herald Square, New York.
