Genre: hip hop, rap
I daresay this is a crossover album (some may call it wish-washy hip hop), but Cudder's kept his identifying atmospheric symphony. Collaborations include Mary J. Blige (x2!) and Cee-Lo Green. Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager is a lengthy album, composed in a variety of styles. It'll be a hit amongst fans for sure.
Tracks I'm Digging
Released in the summer, "Erase Me" employs a rock bass line and drum kit. I couldn't believe it was Kid Cudi when I first heard it- I imagined some 40-year-old singer, but I'm not complaining. Kanye West's bridge is great, as usual.
"REVOFEV": (Revolution of Evolution). A cute, catchy choral hook and very mellow vocals. The percussion is almost humorous. I do love his lyrics, it's a nice change from the constant "yeah, I've got my eyes on your ass" party.
"Mr. Rager": The lyrical idea reminds me of Bjork's "Hunter"- curious, dark, and hopeful. We're seeing that trend in a lot of hip hop music lately, but it's really working out for him. He's got the writing, the tone and the executive producer for it. Immediately my favourite song on the album.
"Trapped In My Mind": Simply because of the accompaniment.
